Looking back at your preliminary task (the school magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

On the left we see comparisons of my finished magazine front cover and contents page and my college magazine front cover and contents page I did for the preliminary task. Looking back over them now, I can see a clear development in my skills on photoshop and also the way I have structured the magazine.

I felt in my main task it would be very important to have stronger photography as on my previous magazine it was rushed and a bit weak. This time I planned out my photography and decided what I wanted people to look like etc. I made sure this time the photo was in focus and clear while also making it big and close enough so the audience would identity with it.

Looking at some other elements, such as  the masthead. I wanted my main task masthead to be a lot clearer and bigger/bolder. Although I thought my previous masthead was OK it was a bit weak in attracting the audience as it was quite small. So my new one is larger, bolder with more vibrant colours.

A very big issue on my old magazine is the fact that it didn't seem to come across as a actual magazine as it didn't portray a lot of the common conventions of  a magazine. So in my new one I made sure to follow conventions of the main stream magazines like tag and cover lines etc. I also included some straps to add extra information to the front cover. I changed the font in my new magazine so it was bolder and easier to read from a distance, along with this I changed the colours so  their weren't too many and they all complemented each other.

In terms of planning, this time I ave thought through more clearly what I want and how I should go about doing so. Before on the preliminary task I just dived in and didn't think about my audience much. Because I have planned better this time I have been able to establish a more clear target audience and because of this I have been able to lay out the apropriate magazine content for them. Futhermore, this time I have done more research instead of before when i did little research. This allowed me to see what my audience wanted and what intrests them.
