My Music Magazine: initial ideas

The working title for my music magazine is ‘AIM’ - Alternative, Indie, Music. I chose this title as I felt it appeals to my target audience and also sums up the meaning of the magazine itself.

In conjunction to my title choice, my target audience would follow a similar mindset to the magazines values. As the title suggests it’s a straight forward, 'knows what it is' magazine - its an abbreviation but both titles represent my target audience. My target audience will be Indie, fashionable, young, expressive and at the for front of consumerism. They will be between the ages of 15-25 and shall be equally male and female. Furthermore they will be in the category ABC1 and because of this and their love of music, they will want to buy the magazine.

The magazine will cost roughly £3.00 - £4.00, I chose this price bracket as it suggest the magazine is not cheap and will have constantly good content. Also they will be able to afford it as they are in the group ABC1. It shall run on a monthly basis as a weekly magazine would not have enough high standard information, which is what my target audience craves.

In terms of content, I shall try to include: fashion, hot topics, Indie music (as well as some new upcoming bands), some comedy, posters, gig reviews, film reviews and much more.

Stylistically my magazine will have a bright, bold and young home style. It shall use modern text that will change dependent on what it is writing about. Colours will be important in the magazine and shall entice the audience with bright colours, but not so much that suggest tackiness. There will be a lot of use of visual texts, as my target audience enjoy images, this will also allow the information to be put forward with more ease.

My USP (unique selling point) shall be that fact that the magazine is targeting a younger Indie market. There are already Indie magazines out, but they seem to target a older generation, so therefore I have aimed it at a slightly younger audience.
