Mood Board
My mood board at the start of the project, showing things I'd like to incorporate into my magazine.
NOTE: I changed my title later on in the project but not in my mood board, therefore it is the old title now.

Looking back at your preliminary task (the school magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?
On the left we see comparisons of my finished magazine front cover and contents page and my college magazine front cover and contents page I did for the preliminary task. Looking back over them now, I can see a clear development in my skills on photoshop and also the way I have structured the magazine. I felt in my main task it would be very important to have stronger photography as on my previous magazine it was rushed and a bit weak. This time I planned out my photography and decided what I wanted people to look like etc. I made sure this time the photo was in focus and clear while also making it big and close enough so the audience would identity with it.
Looking at some other elements, such as the masthead. I wanted my main task masthead to be a lot clearer and bigger/bolder. Although I thought my previous masthead was OK it was a bit weak in attracting the audience as it was quite small. So my new one is larger, bolder with more vibrant colours.A very big issue on my old magazine is the fact that it didn't seem to come across as a actual magazine as it didn't portray a lot of the common conventions of a magazine. So in my new one I made sure to follow conventions of the main stream magazines like tag and cover lines etc. I also included some straps to add extra information to the front cover. I changed the font in my new magazine so it was bolder and easier to read from a distance, along with this I changed the colours so their weren't too many and they all complemented each other.
In terms of planning, this time I ave thought through more clearly what I want and how I should go about doing so. Before on the preliminary task I just dived in and didn't think about my audience much. Because I have planned better this time I have been able to establish a more clear target audience and because of this I have been able to lay out the apropriate magazine content for them. Futhermore, this time I have done more research instead of before when i did little research. This allowed me to see what my audience wanted and what intrests them.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Below we see some print screens of my final products in photoshop. Photoshop CS4 is the program I used to create all my final products, it offers a lot of options to change and mold my products. Around the images, you can see the toolbars, there is a lot of tools that do a lot of things to the image, for example: crop, burn etc. They are all very important in creating the best visual possible. In one you can see the colour adjustment tool, which simply allows me to changes the colours of the image. All of these tools work together to create my final images. Personally I enjoyed using Photoshop as it allowed for such a great deal of freedom when creating something. There is a lot more to learn on it but i have learnt a lot in the due course of this project.
Below we see some logos of other programs I used. Blogger and Flickr were very useful for different reasons. Blogger aloud me to store all of my work in this online database, which can be viewed by the public and of course my teacher, this helped me develop and keep track of my work. Flickr was helpful as it annotates your pictures using text when you hover over a element of the picture. This made it easy to evaluate. Furthermore, you can link Flickr with Blogger so there are links from Blogger to the annotated images. Blogger in contrast of a conventional essay allowed a lot more freedom when creating the entire project, it allowed me to do the project in sections and for the teacher to look and assess easily without having to keep re submit essay drafts. However, as it is all technology based, if something goes wrong, such as the internet is slow, it makes the work harder as you are having these problems which wouldn't happen with a essay. But this aside Blogger does allow for a lot of work to be done with a strong structure and established tracking system. This meaning it allowed for pottentially better work than an essay.
